Sustainability

Our approach.

Working towards carbon neutrality is more than a promise. It’s a way of life.
At APAR, we’re not just tackling climate change with company-wide action, but also setting a new standard with products that address sustainability concerns. Explore how our divisions are addressing sustainability.

Decentralised. Community driven. Proactive
We believe it is community members who can make the biggest changes. Employees are empowered to suggest initiatives that will benefit their local communites and undertake proactive environmental steps.

We have taken extensive efforts to make our Rabale plant a sustainable one.

Rainwater harvesting for factory use and groundwater recharge
Thanks to the implementation of a rainwater harvesting mechanism, we have been able to harvest
2800 KL of rainwater each year. Out of this, about 350 KL is used in our factory processes, and we use the rest to recharge groundwater.

Solar power usage, which reduces 239 tons of carbon emissions every year
A total of 395 KWp rooftop grids are connected to our Rabale factory. Our solar power plant is installed with net metering, which results in an average power generation of 3.4 lakh units every year. This helps us massively reduce carbon emissions.

Strict monitoring of air leakages
We ensure air leakages remain below 6% at all costs.

We use a thermic fluid heater in place of conventional steam boiler
This ensures a closed loop system is used when heating our oils. No water evaporates and goes to waste, reducing our carbon footprint by tonnes of water.

We use PNG (Pipe Natural Gas) fired boilers
Natural gas is the cleanest fossil fuel available as an energy source. Using PNG as fuel for boilers reduced emission of greenhouse gases such as carbon dioxide by 27% and methane by 67%. This has helped us to reduce emission of greenhouse gases by 199 tonnes per year.

Our Polymers division has not just managed to conserve natural resources, but also set an example by adopting recycling measures

Reusing water using a simple vacuum mechanism
Over 5 lakh litres of water is saved per years, thanks to effective reuse of water extracted from a vacuum pump. We reuse water for flush tanks and watering greenery, so that groundwater dependence is reduced.

Replacing chillers with cooling chambers: saving 43 kV a day
Cooling chambers eliminate the need for individual chillers. This helps us reduce the number of machines required, and cut down on both costs and energy usage.

Upcycling and recycling packaging to prevent wastage
Since we purchase large quantities of oil for our factory operations, we reuse the oil drums as furniture. Old tools and pipes are used to create art, which beautifies our plants and gives our employees a creative outlet.

The Cables division has not just focused on energy conservation at the factories, but also positively impacting local communities.

Reducing 1127 MT of carbon emissions a year, equivalent to planting 51,736 mature trees
Thanks to the division’s rooftop solar plant, 1,210,023 units of electricity are saved every year, which dramatically reduces carbon emissions.

Installing the most efficient machines
High-speed wire drawing machines and MSD machines are run in a way that they use the least amount of energy while generating the best results.

Lake development, lake deepening and tree plantation drives
The Cables team has undertaken extensive lake development and tree planting at Manekpur, and deepened the Nargol lake as well. Local communities are benefited, thanks to increased water sources and more green cover.

The Conductors division has gone the extra mile to invest in R&D, and create eco-friendly products. Additionally, the factories have undertaken several initiatives to invest in energy-efficient equipment and activities to increase green cover.

R&D to create and invest in equipment and products which are more eco-friendly
5 of our conductor products and 3 of our aluminium rods series are certified for ‘Product Carbon FootPrint’ as per ISO:14067:2018 standards.

Reduced furnace oil consumption by 5000 KL in a year
This has been done by implementing direct molten aluminium from our aluminium refineries and ensuring ageing furnaces are made biodegradabe.

Energy saving initiatives which save over 50,000 kWh
This is possible thanks to our 3 fully-functioning solar power units.

Tree planting and water recycling
Over 3000 saplings have been planted across our 3 plants. We also manage to recycle 3000 KL of water on annual basis, undertake rainwater harvesting and create bio fertiliser from waste.

Grassroots work that makes a difference

Given that a majority of our factories are helmed by dozens of villages, we believe we have a moral obligation to undertake initiatives that will benefit communities at large. From tree plantings to lake restorations, we place an emphasis on getting communities involved, engaged and active.

We are relentlessly working to design products that are specially certified to reduce carbon footprint.
